Our stay at The Compleat Angler, Marlow

This is an 18th century MacDonald 4 star hotel sited on the southside of the River Thames opposite the town of Marlow, Buckinghamshire. The Compleat Angler was made famous by Izaak Walton (1593-1683) who wrote the book in 1653 about the art, philosophy and fun of fishing . He was known as 'The Father of Angling'. As can be seen by the video the room was an adequate size with a view overlooking the famous Marlow bridge and the local church which at the top of the spire houses rare Peregrine Falcons. The price for our stay was set at a reasonable price, just over Ā£100 and this included breakfast (Ā£32? if separate) and free ample parking & WiFi. We could enter our room at 3.00 p.m. and the receptionist was very friendly and professional. She asked if we were staying for dinner at one of their two restaurants - The Riverside Restaurant and Sindhu by Atul Kochhar who serves Michelin starred Indian cuisine. Seasonal outdoor dining is also available at The Lawn or individual Pods. Afternoon tea is served and they have a very nice bar on the ground floor. All staff seem very friendly. We were situated on the first floor as per the video. Although we did not dine at either of the restaurants because we were meeting friends they appeared very nice with river views across to Marlow town. However, we later went to the cosy bar and had a Marlow Lemon gin & tonic and a Jameson whiskey - cost Ā£31. We both had a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed with no noise from outside or neighbours. Breakfast was a delight with great views of the bridge, church and weir. Unfortunately, the full breakfast had run out of black pudding and brown toast which seemed strange as we arrived at an early time of 9ish.
